How Nexstema Helped Sweetgrass Hire Two Experienced Aestheticians Across a Three-Location Recruitment Campaign

Sweetgrass Plastic Surgery & Med Spa needed experienced aestheticians to support its medical spa operations across the Charleston area. With multiple locations recruiting and candidate response varying by location, the business needed a focused approach to attracting and identifying suitable professionals. Nexstema delivered a 44-day recruitment campaign that generated 100 applications, progressed 15 candidates through screening and contributed to two confirmed hires.

About Sweetgrass

Sweetgrass Plastic Surgery & Med Spa is an aesthetic healthcare practice serving the Charleston area of South Carolina, offering plastic surgery and non-surgical aesthetic treatments. Its medical spa services included skincare treatments, facials and laser-based procedures, supported by professionals with specialist treatment knowledge and client-facing experience. During the 2025 campaign, Sweetgrass was recruiting aestheticians across Mount Pleasant, Summerville and Charleston.

The challenge

  • Sweetgrass needed experienced, licensed aestheticians to support its medical spa operations across multiple locations.
  • Suitable candidates required hands-on treatment experience, strong client service skills and the ability to work within a medical aesthetics environment.
  • Recruitment activity covered Mount Pleasant, Summerville and Charleston, creating different local candidate requirements and response patterns.
  • Applicant response had slowed in Charleston, while Mount Pleasant became a priority for additional recruitment support.
  • The client needed a manageable pipeline of relevant candidates rather than spending management time reviewing every application.

Our Solution

  • Nexstema launched three location-specific Licensed Aesthetician recruitment advertisements to attract candidates across the Charleston area.
  • Nexstema conducted initial interviews and progressed candidates who met the screening criteria.
  • The advertising approach was adjusted as priorities changed, introducing targeted paid sponsorship while retaining an organic-first strategy.
  • Regular client reviews helped align candidate selection and recruitment activity with Sweetgrass’s evolving hiring requirements.
“We've had some fantastic hires through Nexstema, including two experienced aestheticians from our three-location campaign. We even had another hire who was so good she moved from front desk into our aesthetics team. It's not just about filling vacancies - it's about finding great people.”

The Challenge: Finding Experienced Aestheticians Across Multiple Locations

During the campaign, Sweetgrass was recruiting aestheticians across Mount Pleasant, Summerville and Charleston. They needed more than applicants with a general interest in beauty and skincare. They were looking for experienced aesthetics professionals who could deliver treatments confidently, provide strong customer service and contribute to its medical spa operations.

The recruitment brief placed importance on practical treatment experience, professional licensing, communication skills, employment stability and the ability to work across locations where required. The scale of the requirement was clear during a November recruitment review, when Sweetgrass identified a need for four aestheticians.

However, attracting applicants was only part of the challenge. Candidate response differed across the locations, and the business needed a process for identifying suitable professionals without creating unnecessary screening work for its management team.

Nexstema’s Approach: Localised Advertising and Structured Candidate Screening

Nexstema developed separate Licensed Aesthetician recruitment advertisements for Mount Pleasant, Summerville and Charleston.

The campaigns presented the opportunity around Sweetgrass’s medical aesthetics environment, treatment services and professional development opportunities.

Rather than sending every applicant directly to the client, Nexstema managed initial screening and interviews.

Candidate assessments focused on relevant professional experience, treatment knowledge, credentials, previous employment, communication skills and practical location requirements.

This helped Sweetgrass focus its attention on candidates who had already demonstrated alignment with the hiring brief.

The team initially used organic job advertising, introducing paid sponsorship as recruitment priorities and local candidate response changed.

Regular campaign reviews provided opportunities to discuss candidate suitability, assess progress and adjust recruitment activity.

Campaign Journey: Adapting Recruitment Activity to Hiring Priorities

The campaign ran from 20 October to 3 December 2025.

By 19 November, recruitment was underway across all three locations. Sweetgrass indicated that it still needed more aestheticians, while the Charleston advertisement was producing fewer responses.

Mount Pleasant became a priority for additional recruitment support, prompting a targeted adjustment to advertising activity.

Alongside attracting applications, Nexstema continued screening candidates and coordinating initial interviews.

By 26 November, Sweetgrass had confirmed two aesthetician offers.

The selected candidates brought complementary experience. One had approximately three years of medical aesthetics experience, including facial treatments, laser training and personalised skincare. The other had more than two years of lead aesthetician experience, including advanced treatments, skincare retail sales and experience within a plastic surgery practice.

At the final review on 3 December, the client confirmed that one new aesthetician had already started and the second was scheduled to begin the following week.

Sweetgrass then instructed Nexstema to close the recruitment campaign.

The Result: Two Hires From a 100-Applicant Campaign

Over 44 days, the campaign generated 100 applications across its three targeted locations.

Nexstema conducted 19 initial interviews and identified 15 candidates who passed screening, giving Sweetgrass a focused selection of applicants for further hiring consideration.

The campaign tracker recorded two confirmed hires, both with backgrounds relevant to Sweetgrass’s medical spa services.

The outcome was not simply a large number of applications. Nexstema helped turn a broad applicant pool into screened candidates and supported the client through to hiring decisions.

By the final campaign review, Sweetgrass was able to close the aesthetician recruitment activity.

Secondary Benefits: A More Focused Recruitment Process

The campaign gave Sweetgrass a structured approach to managing recruitment across different locations.

Nexstema’s initial screening reduced the number of candidates requiring direct consideration by the client, while regular reviews helped the recruitment process respond to changing priorities.

The campaign also demonstrated how organic advertising and selective paid sponsorship could be combined rather than applying the same level of advertising expenditure across every location.

These activities helped maintain focus on candidate suitability and hiring progress throughout the campaign.
